“I wanted to expand my testing knowledge and challenge myself. Planit not only offered a wide range of opportunities and training, but the company culture seemed like the right fit for me.”
Alexander Sardo-Infirri, Senior Technical Test Analyst, Planit
Alexander Sardo-Infirri originally aimed to get into security work by studying a security-related degree at university. After some job searching, he broadened his scope to include testing and he came across a graduate test engineer position.
“I applied for it since I saw it as a possible pathway to NetSec,” he says. “I got the job and started in functional automation, before eventually moving into performance and finally security testing.”
Alexander first heard about Planit through its involvement in TestWest, an annual testing conference in Perth. After visiting the booth and talking to the staff manning it, Alexander came away impressed with the company and what it was offering career-wise.
“I wanted to expand my testing knowledge and challenge myself,” Alexander says. “Planit not only offered a wide range of opportunities and training, but the company culture seemed like the right fit for me.”
Alexander soon joined Planit’s Perth office where he is now a Senior Technical Test Analyst. It is a role that came with added responsibility, a challenge he stepped up to by skilling up and learning from his peers.
“The industry moves fast, so I like to keep on my toes and avoid complacency,” Alexander says. “I want to be confident I am doing the best possible job I can, my main motivation comes from providing excellent service.”
Looking back at his own efforts to get into the testing industry, Alexander’s recommendation is to familiarise with well-known testing methodologies, concepts and tools. He also recommends networking with industry peers by going to event, meetups and presentations.
“Be motivated and don’t expect anyone to hold your hand,” he says. “And don’t be afraid to embrace failure and learn from it.”
