“I’ve heard a lot of horror stories about how difficult it is to look for work overseas if you don’t have any local work experience. But Planit has shown that it always has a place for any skilled and knowledgeable individual that shares the same love and passion for quality, regardless of who they are and where they’re from.”
Angelique Lojo, Test Analyst, Planit
Growing up in what is now commonly referred to as the “millennials era”, Angelique Lojo has always been exposed to and interested in new technologies. “It may sound cliché, but I am always amazed on how small devices can help you in your everyday living from kitchen items to luxurious stuff,” she says.
The thought that she could be a part of building such technology is what pushed Angelique to start a career in IT. In 2016, she got a chance to reinvent her career when her husband was offered the opportunity to relocate from the Philippines to work in Australia.
“At first we were hesitant to accept the offer since we had just gotten married, so settling in to a new country seemed like it would introduce a lot of added challenges,” she says. “But when we thought about the opportunities and experiences we might gain, we pushed through and relocated.”
After a week in Melbourne, Angelique started looking for work and learned about Planit from her acquaintances who applied for positions during the company’s Singapore recruitment drive. “What stood out from that conversation was how rigorous Planit’s selection was,” she says.
Never shying away from a challenge, Angelique decided to apply for a positioned at Planit’s Melbourne office and was successfully hired as a Test Analyst. In fact, it was a role that needed to be fulfilled urgently, though a sudden family tragedy caused some initial complications.
“I had just gotten the role and needed to request to take time off for a few days. This was granted without any dramas,” Angelique says. “I knew then and there that I would be fortunate in working for a company that clearly values its people and understands the importance of family.”
In the time Angelique has been with the company, she has been able to hone her skills at the same time enjoy what Australia has to offer impressed with its cultural and gender diversity.
“I’ve heard a lot of horror stories about how difficult it is to look for work overseas if you don’t have any local work experience,” Angelique says. “But Planit has shown that it always has a place for any skilled and knowledgeable individual that shares the same love and passion for quality, regardless of who they are and where they’re from.”
