“I love how friendly and helpful the senior staff and management are. They always want the best for their juniors and their career development.”
Cherie, Engineer, Planit
Cherie has loved video games for as long as she can remember.
“You could say that is where my interesting in technology came from,” she says. “I always wanted the latest and greatest technology, even though I didn’t have the money or the space to get them.”
This interest in technology led her to study and graduate with a double major in Information Systems and e-Commerce. Instead of jumping straight into an IT career after graduation, Cherie left New Zealand to go on a working holiday in the US.
After spending a fun-filled year in North America, Cherie returned to New Zealand and started a temp job at a company specialises in manufacturing implants and surgical instruments. It was at this time a friend from university passed along a useful tip.
“The company she was working at was undergoing a graduate recruitment drive,” Cherie says. “It looked like an interesting opportunity so I applied for it.”
Cherie joined hundreds of hopeful candidates for the Planit Graduate Programme in New Zealand. After days of information sessions, training, activities and exams, she came out successful in the end and started her career as a Planit tester.
“I love how friendly and helpful the senior staff and management are,” Cherie says. “They always want the best for their juniors and their career development.”
Now an Engineer at the Auckland office, Cherie continues to benefit from the continued feedback and support she gets from the people around her.
“I always remember the times I received exceptional feedback from a client,” she says. “I feel very happy and proud that my hard work was acknowledged by not only my mentoring buddy and trainer, but also the account and test managers.”
One pleasant surprise for Cherie was that annual company parties were not as she imagined them to be.
“I wasn’t that keen to attend them at first, since I thought they would be formal and serious, but I’m glad that I did,” she says. “The parties turned out to be some of the most enjoyable memories I have with Planit!”
Until next company party to take place, there’s no shortage of team activities to participate in outside of work.
“I have attended and helped organise with my colleagues several events and activities outside of work, such as karaoke, movie nights, brunches, birthdays, and drinks or dinners after work on Fridays,” Cherie says. “They’re all a lot of fun, since I’m doing them with my friends!”
