“Planit management values my career development. I can see how my career path has been successfully progressed in the years since I joined Planit, and how that will evolve further with more opportunities on the horizon.”
Alex, Test Analyst, Planit
Test Analyst, Alex, was always interested in being part of the rapidly growing IT sector. After doing a bit of research, Alex discovered that testing was a booming sector with plenty of entry-level positions.
“I found that testers work on the front line of software development with programmers and project managers,” he said. “As a tester, you get a wholistic picture of how IT projects run and the ways to achieve the goals of the team.”
Joining Planit in Wellington not only gave Alex a start in IT, but also kicked off his professional career straight after university. “Planit opened the door for me and offered the first opportunity of my career,” he said.
Since then, Alex has stayed for Planit’s “community-like culture” and wide range of benefits it offers to employees, such as the employee mobility programme. An avid traveller, Alex has used the programme to visit offices throughout New Zealand and even overseas.
“Planit management values my career development,” he said. “I can see how my career path has been successfully progressed in the years since I joined Planit, and how that will evolve further with more opportunities on the horizon.”
Coming to Planit as a graduate meant Alex was able to make use of the company’s award-winning training programs to skill up and get certified in key testing methodologies. Planit’s training, as well as support from his peers and management, enabled Alex to quickly find his feet in testing and gain experience from working with more than ten clients.
“The more I do, the more I feel it necessary to upgrade my knowledge-base to be ready for more challenging tasks,” Alex said. “Staying in your comfort zone will only get you left behind in this rapidly changing industry.”
For Alex, the top skill of an aspiring tester is to not be afraid of making changes. In fact, it’s the best part of working in the testing industry and should be embraced.
“Keep challenging yourself and continually absorb knowledge from your day-to-day work experiences,” he said. “You’ll be surprised how far you can actually go!”
