“My team leads helped and always supported me in improving my skill set in order to build my expertise. As soon as I stepped into Planit, I felt I was a valued member of the Digital QA team, and that’s because the team leads helped and guided me along the way.”
Lavanya, Test Analyst, Planit
After graduation, Lavanya wanted to work as a software developer and explored several the different positions available in the industry. Out of all the different roles, testing was the one that stood out.
“I could understand and appreciate the effort of testers in delivering a final working product,” she said. “I also realised it was the testers that played a key role in pushing the product out the door.”
Lavanya was first introduced to Planit while job hunting on sites such as Glassdoor. In particular, it was the positive reviews about the company that enabled her to apply for a position with confidence.
“When I was invited for an interview to the Hyderabad office, I was able to see and experience Planit’s friendly workplace environment for myself,” she said. “So when I was offered a position as a Test Analyst, I didn’t hesitate when it came time to accept it.”
It was a stroke of good luck that Lavanya could join Planit, otherwise she might have pursued her alternate career path as a pilot. “Being earthbound like every other person, I was always fascinated by planes and flight, so becoming a pilot was one job I was considering after graduation,” she said.
Working at Planit has exposed Lavanya to several development methodologies such as Agile, which she has been able to learn more through work and certification. Internal resources, such as newsletters and articles, from thought leaders such as Business Agility Practice Director, Leanne Howard, were also very educational.
“I had no idea about Agile until I joined Planit, but this this methodology really helps in delivering a quality product,” she said. “It provides a process from the initial requirements of the project to the delivery of the final product to the client.”
As a graduate tester, Lavanya was not simply left alone to work things out for herself. From day one on the job, team leaders mentored her to ensure that she fit in well with Planit’s work culture and meet the projects’ testing needs.
“My team leads, Srinath and Mohammed, helped and always supported me in improving my skill set in order to build my expertise,” Lavanya said. “As soon as I stepped into Planit, I felt I was a valued member of the Digital QA team, and that’s because the team leads helped and guided me along the way.”
Planit’s comprehensive training and certification programmes also ensure that the learning doesn’t stop. For Lavanya and many other Planit staff, the opportunity to train further and skill-up provides an opportunity to grow both professionally and personally.
Reflecting on her own start in testing and at Planit, Lavanya recommends any budding tester gets ISTQB certified. “It provides the necessary starting knowledge on testing, as well as the techniques and models which many companies follow,” she said. “This in turn provides insight into the requirements of the clients that you will be assisting with project delivery.”
