Edgecam Sponsors Kew Bridge Festival of Models

Edgecam, the market leading CAM software developer for the engineering industry, is again sponsoring the prestigious Festival Of Models at the Kew Bridge Steam Museum, in Brentford, London.

Thanks to Edgecam’s sponsorship, this year’s Festival -- with exhibits on the twin themes of model engineering and model boats -- features a full size Cornish beam engine in operation.

The 90” and 100” engine houses will be transformed into a wonderland of model steam engineering on October 2nd and 3rd, displaying model engineering at its very best, giving visitors the chance to draw direct comparisons between these miniature marvels and their full sized counterparts. Static exhibits, compressed air running and real miniature steam will all be present, including stationary engines, traction engines and fairground models. The museum’s narrow gauge railway will be operating together with the steam hall rotative engines and, as a special treat, Edgecam’s sponsorship allows the Maudslay Cornish beam engine of 1838 to be demonstrated twice each day.

Maudslay Beam EngineSuch Cornish engines were an historic step forward in the development of steam power, and were once widely used to provide power to the mining, water supply and other industries. The Maudslay has a 65” diameter vertical cylinder with a 96” stoke transmitted through a 20 ton rocking beam. It was capable of delivering 130 gallons per stroke, that’s 2.5-million gallons every 24 hours.

Medway Queen being restoredThe Festival is a joint event between the Steam Museum and the Medway Queen Preservation Society. The latest news on this 1924 estuary pleasure paddle steamer’s renovation will be able at the event. The Medway Queen Preservation Society will also be at the Festival with latest news on the ship’s rebuild in Bristol, and a display of past and present model railway wagons from the Medway Queen “railway wagon project," along with model ships and boats.

Other attractions include a fully working model dragline excavator, vintage 0 gauge trains, and an extensive array of model boats of all sizes and scales.

Edgecam is a complete CAM software solution for production machining and mold & die applications. With an extensive range of 2 – 5 Axis milling, turning and mill/turn strategies, seamless CAD integration and sophisticated automation tools, Edgecam also combines unrivalled ease of use and sophisticated toolpath generation, and is the perfect sponsorship partner for the Festival.

Testimonials

It is an extremely flexible system that can be tailored to individual customers’ requirements. From our point of view, its capabilities are at the heart of everything we do. In fact, we simply could not run at our current levels without it.
